Using 2K, or two-component, paint is easy to understand and quick to explain. The name itself indicates that the finished paint consists of two different components: a base paint (paint, color, or primer) and the corresponding hardener. For trouble-free application of a two-component paint, several points must be observed. The paint description always contains the most important product details, including: which hardener belongs to the paint, the mixing ratio, application viscosity, thinner, pot life, processing time, application method, and processing conditions. These points in detail: Which hardener belongs to the paint? The paint description, usually also the paint can, always specifies the exact hardener designation compatible with the paint. Never use a different hardener. Mixing ratio: The two components, paint and hardener, are mixed in a specified ratio immediately before application. This ratio is also provided in the paint description or on the paint can. Example: a mixing ratio of 5:1 by weight means weighing out 5 parts paint and 1 part hardener and mixing them together. Depending on how much paint is needed for one application, it is best to use a kitchen scale. Place an empty container on the scale, first add, for example, 500 grams of paint, and then add 100 grams of hardener. This gives the specified 5:1 mixing ratio by weight. Stir the mixture thoroughly for at least 1 minute. If you want to thin the paint, LWE Spezialverdnnung 2K/400 can be ordered separately.
